The new highway to Terekeka.

Date:

South Sudan’s aggressive infrastructural strategy to build roads commenced when H.E. President Salva Kiir Maryardit headed a high level delegation to China in 2020. The main agenda was to select a construction company that would be tasked to build the first tarmac road from Juba to Bahr El Ghazal . Fast forward two years and we have a smooth and professionally engineered two lane road to Tereka built by Shandong Hi-Speed ltd.

A Road trip to Tereka is the néw activity exuding excitement amongst the citizens to take a drive and experience the frontier of development. Approximately 63km of scenery and lush green land on either side of the road, farms have been demarcated with irrigation systems installed. Man made lakes have accumulated into water reservoirs for the residing animals and construction workers.

Segments of the road have speed markers installed at various locations to deter motorists from over speeding.

Frequently see pedestrians/school children walking, herders walking veering their cows off the tarmac

Half way into the journey, the road is used being nearly everybody and every animal, there is constant activity both ways, diplomatic  convoys drive either way, government convoys to goat herders

The road has also opened a gateway to Tereka for investment. A 40minute drive from Juba can be an opportunity for retreats and weekend getaways to spend time fishing, birdwatching and spent quiet time with nature.
