Ever since the collapse of Luri bridge in 2012, the notorious bridge has claimed many lives. The strong water current at it’s peak has washed away cars, water trucks and anyone daring to attempt to cross to the other side. As one of the key infrastructure priorities besides roads, bridge rehabilitation continue to be a big factor for development to improve trade, transport and connect communities and the country at large.
During 2021, President Salva Kiir Mayardit accompanied by a huge delegation comprising of senior executives, and top officials from the security and armed forces visited the site to assess the ongoing project. ARC engineers explained the successes and challenges they faced alongside the scheduled date for completion of the bridge.
One year on and the long awaited Luri Bridge is completed and ready to be opened to the public. A big milestone for the surrounding communities, saving many lives and a triumph for the government in closing the gap on infrastructure. The impact will signify hope, growth and development for the nation, spurring economic activity and ease the movement of goods and services to further away communities.
